A FUN Community Clothing Swap for a Cause!

Get ready for the 2015 New Paltz ReUse Center Shop Kick-Off Clothing Swap to benefit a local charity serving at risk women. 

WHAT: Come get FREE clothes & donate your clothing treasures for others to take home! 

BRING: Your purged, sorted & bagged up great clothes AND empty bags to take home new ones! 

COST: NOTHING! (However, you will be able to donate the suggested amount of $5 at the door. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity serving at risk women.

WHY: To kick-off the 2015 Season of ReUse & Recycling at the ReUse Center Shop + help those in the community by doing something we love- Shopping for Free!

(Clean, good & contemporary condition clothes ONLY! Please NO clothes with stains, smells or rips! (No one likes to come across grody clothes! Ew!)

Mens, Children's + working good condition household items will also be accepted! Left over items can be donated to the center!

Bathroom "Bio-Waste" IS NOT Recyclable

Bathroom "bio-waste" is not recyclable. Disposable razor blades, used deodorant and cotton swabs, for instance, should be thrown into a garbage bag and discarded. We are accepting empty toothpaste tubes, empty dental floss and toothbrushes in sealed bags in the recycling center office if you are a permitted user. This is part of the Terracycle Brigade partnership with Colgate Oral Care to take back dental care items.

The U.S. EPA estimates that 2 billion disposable razors are tossed each year. So, if you’re looking to really reduce your waste, your best bet may be to drop the extra dough on a longer-lasting razor.

Meet up at the Repair Cafe today, November 15th at the United Methodist Church from 10am to 3pm. The ReUse Center will be bringing a box of clothes to giveaway as part of the kickoff for Textile Collection Day on November 29th at the NYSDEC offices on South Putt Corners Road. 

Textile Collection Day

New Paltz has partnered with the UCRRA and New York State DEC to sponsor a textile collection day on Saturday, November 29 from 9am –Noon at the NYSDEC Region 3 Headquarters located at 21 South Putt Corners Road in New Paltz.

Acceptable Textile Items for Recycling: wearable clothing items from households, *paired shoes, pocketbooks, draperies and household textiles, such as curtains, sheets, bed spreads, bed throws, towels of any size and pillowcases. All articles shall be free from any wetness, moisture, grease, mold, solvents or food waste.

Unacceptable Materials: Rugs, carpets, bed pillows, industrial uniforms, disposable clothing, hospital or medical garments or blankets, diapers (of any type). Also, do not include any industrial textiles such as tobacco cloth, painters drop cloths, theatrical curtains, textile waste, wiping rags and shop towels.

2014 Zero Waste Workshop Agenda

The agenda for the September 18th workshop at SUNY campus Coykendall building beginning 5:30pm is jam packed with wonderful speakers!

There will be food, speakers and breakout sessions to discuss strategic planning for next steps for a Zero Waste New Paltz. The breakout sessions will include regulatory planning, SUNY Spring campus cleanup, reuse and reduction. We need your thoughts and ideas to make this work. See you tomorrow in the Coykendall auditorium!

Unveiling of the Zero Waste Action Plan and Strategic Planning

NEW PALTZ ZERO WASTE PLAN UNVEILED: Strategic Planning and Public Input on How Our Community Can Access Its Abundance of Materials.

New Paltz’s Town Board approved Zero Waste Action Plan and Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) program was created through public input. Several nationally recognized programs have been implemented and further long-term strategic planning is needed. Bring your thoughts and ideas to share on:

UnVeiling of New Paltz's Zero Waste Action Plan

Rob Jameson, Co-Founder of Mass Mosaic is scheduled to speak on September 18th at SUNY New Paltz on how any community can access its abundance of materials as part of a massive decentralized movement to end scarcity. This philosophy follows the New Paltz Zero Waste goals of sustainability through waste diversion and community action. Mass Mosaic: World of Plenty

The success of this Plan is contingent upon effective communication and active engagement with each of the stakeholders to harness their interest and energy to turn local solid waste problems into solutions, re-educate the community to think locally and sustainably and restructure solid waste management into sustainable materials management.

New Paltz recognizes community as the key ingredient in its quest for a positive vision of the future. The quality of interactions among all members of the community — businesses, governments, individuals, and organizations — will define the its ability to adapt to an energy-constrained, sustainable future through local and environmental support. By stimulating interest and dialogue in the pressing issues of environmental awareness and sustainability, New Paltz hopes to herald a new paradigm of interactions among all members of the community. New Paltz envisions community collaborations to increase its energy efficiency, re-localize our economy and food sources, develop a greener built environment, reduce its carbon footprint, and expand educational resources.
